Castell Howell picks up transport operator award

Castell Howell has been named Refrigerated Transport Operator of the Year at the TCS&D 2023 awards, with the Caterforce member praised for its customer focused commitment to improvement and innovation.

The judging panel also praised how the foodservice wholesaler champions regional produce, Welsh farmers and vegetable growers, collaborating with local authorities to get locally-grown vegetables on the menu which in turn supports the local economy and reduces food miles. It was also recognised for its impressive sustainability measures, including its fleet, and commitment to zero waste to landfill.

As part of its environmental commitment to doing the right thing, Castell Howell operated the first hybrid solution for rigid vehicles in the UK. It was also the first in the UK to trial the new Carrier Transicold next generation temperature-controlled trailer system, which has led to huge financial savings and improved trailer noise pollution.

“Castell Howell prides itself on helping its customers, colleagues and the communities it serves to grow and thrive,” said Matt Lewis, managing director. “We do this by embedding social, cultural, environmental and economic sustainability across our business, which has been recognised by TCS&D. This award is great recognition for the hard work and dedication shown by everyone involved throughout the company,” said Martin Jones, Director of Transport Operations.

“We were up against some really good operators – many multinational companies with solid reputations and far greater resources than ourselves. The award demonstrates the quality of our people and our commitment as a business to be the best at what we do. Our team is crammed with talent, energy and ability, which is the perfect recipe for success and high standards. While I always knew we were great operators and that we have the best people, to have it recognised with this award is incredibly satisfying and rewarding.’’
