Senior team at coffee wholesaler lead management buyout

Chief executive Jonathan Reed and operations director Zoe Hill have successfully completed a management-buy-out of coffee wholesaler and café operator Paddy & Scott’s Coffee.

Established in 2007, The Suffolk-based company has seen 28% year-on-year growth and the management team secured funding to acquire the business from Scott Russell after enjoying record breaking performance in 2023.

Russell. said “In the last year, Paddy & Scott’s success has attracted multiple approaches to acquire the business, but I really can’t see Paddy & Scott’s future in the hands of a corporate organisation. Paddy & Scott’s is a Suffolk business, focused on empowering coffee farmers and the wider community. I’m delighted the company will continue to be independently owned and operated by the management team”

Reed added “The business will greatly benefit from new energy, and we are thrilled to give Scott the opportunity to celebrate his 17 years and help many other UK businesses as a successful coach, investor and mentor.”

“Since 2020 we have transformed the company and are immensely proud of the progress we’ve made. When the opportunity arose to acquire the business and safeguard our future commitments to coffee farmers and their families, it was something we just had to look at.”

Meanwhile, Hill stated how it was a moment of pride to have joined the company ten years ago and now to call myself proud custodian and owner. We feel it is the perfect time to embark on the next chapter of our journey. Over the years, we have built a team of incredible people and look forward to empowering more coffee farmers, providing more school meals and ambition to children in coffee growing regions.”

Upon his departure, Russell commented, “I’m extremely proud of what we have achieved at Paddy & Scott’s, and after 17 years, it’s a proud moment to hand the keys over to the management team. Paddy & Scott’s is in great hands, and I wish them all well for the future. I know that they have big plans, and I’m excited to watch Jon and Zoe take the business forward in new directions.”
