Kitwave and Gilson’s leave buying groups to join Today’s Group

North-east-headquartered wholesale giant Kitwave Group and Leicester-based Gilson’s Foods have joined as wholesaler members of the Today’s Group buying group.

Gilson’s was formerly a member of Today’s for 23 years, before leaving to join Landmark Wholesale.

Two years down the line, and Gilson’s has elected to return to Today’s, with immediate effect.

John Schofield, acting managing director of the Today’s Group said: “We are absolutely delighted that the Gilson family has taken the decision to re-join the Today’s Group. We were disappointed when, as a long-standing member, they decided to leave the Group in 2015. We are looking forward to working with them to support them in growing and developing their business into the future”

Kitwave, meanwhile, will be joining Today’s with effect from January 2018 after 30 years as a Sugro member. Kitwave has expanded more of its operations into grocery, export and on-trade markets, and with Sugro being an ambient impulse-focused buying group, the business has decided that Today’s is a more appropriate fit as a buying group.

Mike Young, commercial director of Kitwave Group, said: “As a Group we have expanded dramatically in recent times and will continue to do so in the future. To aid this strategic growth, the Today’s Group offering provides a perfect partnership for our needs”

Schofield added: “We welcome Kitwave to the Today’s family, and look forward to working with the team to create a collaboration that is beneficial to both parties.”

Today’s is the UK’s largest buying group with purchasing power of £5.7bn, and has more than 150 wholesale members.
