Matthew Clark educates customers with biggest-ever wine tasting event

On-trade wholesaler, Matthew Clark, is holding it’s annual wine tasting event at Thameside venue Tobacco Dock on 18th March.  The event is aimed at inspiring existing and future customers and helping them to improve their wine lists and grow margins.

The interactive tasting will be made up of different ‘zones’ in individual rooms creating a feeling of a series of small and more intimate focus tastings all under one roof, allowing for visitors to plan their day based on their particular areas of interest.  There will be a major focus on education and sharing of expertise, with Matthew Clark specialists on hand to offer one-on-one advice to customers.

One of the largest zones will be devoted to Spain; Matthew Clark’s leading region.  Matthew Clark has taken significant steps in recent years to develop and grow its Spanish portfolio, and this expertise is reflected in the large number of awards its Spanish range has won over the past months.  Buyers and producers alike will be available to talk customers through the wines, and Spanish tapas will be served throughout the tasting with dishes carefully selected to match with particular wines on show.

Amongst a line-up of over 350 wines from all corners of the world will be almost 100 new wines, each of which reflects the ethos of the Matthew Clark buying team to seek out wines which “overdeliver” against their respective price points, and ultimately allow Matthew Clark to offer real value to customers. With 2013 seeing a bumper year for award wins for Matthew Clark across the board, (over 530!) visitors to the tasting will have an opportunity to taste some of the distributor’s most awarded wines in a dedicated trophy winning zone.

Stephen Gill, Regional Managing Director for Matthew Clark says: “We have decided this year to increase the size and scope of our annual wine tasting and include wine list engineering, marketing and merchandising techniques that will excite consumers and ensure that Matthew Clark’s customers generate a greater level of profit from selling wine.”
