Bestway and the Federation of Wholesale Distributors (FWD) highlighted the importance of independent retail to Labour MP Sally Jameson during a visit to the wholesaler’s Doncaster depot.
Jameson, MP for Doncaster Central, visited the warehouse on 8 August. During her visit, general manager Steve Lee and his team told her how independent retailers relied on wholesalers to ensure they can continue serving their communities. Bestway and the trade body have hosted similar meetings with MPs in the past.
Other issues raised included the upcoming Deposit Return Scheme and proposed changes to business rates.

Jameson said: “I saw firsthand the important role wholesalers play both in our local economy and across the UK. The wholesale sector is a critical part of the food supply chain.”
The FWD added: “Jameson’s visit served as a timely reminder of the essential role wholesalers play in keeping communities like Doncaster running. From supplying school meals and care homes to supporting independent retailers and hospitality, wholesalers are the backbone of everyday life.
“As new policies take shape, it’s vital that the wholesale sector is recognised and supported for the critical part it plays in building resilient communities here in Doncaster and across the UK.”
