United Wholesale Grocers (UWG) is to open a cash and carry in Greater Manchester, adding to existing locations in Gateshead and two others in Glasgow.
Several job advertisements have revealed vacant roles for checkout supervisor, warehouse operative and general manager for the depot, which were posted in April, while another vacancy for business development manager suggests the firm will be embarking on a recruitment drive for new customers in the area.

Although an opening date is still to be confirmed, UWG managing director Amaan Ramzan told our sister website Better Retailing it would launch in 2026. He added: “We’re coming to Greater Manchester and targeting the whole of the north west of England. We’ll shortly be opening customer registrations online and would urge all retailers to sign up, so they can use our services as soon as they’re available.”
UWG first announced details of the expansion at its annual tradeshow in September 2024. The warehouse in Greater Manchester will be its second in England,
