Ajoy Karna is in temporary charge at foodservice wholesale giant Brakes UK, following the departure of CEO Ton Christiaanse.

Christiaanse leaves Brakes after just one year with the business.

Karna, senior vice president for international foodservice operations at Sysco, the US foodservice giant which purchased Brakes in 2016, is manning the helm while a full-time replacement for Christiaanse is sought.

A Sysco spokesperson said: “The business thanks Ton for his contribution over the last year and wishes him every success in the future. The commitment from Sysco to its European business is unwavering, and Sysco continues to build a strong and successful business in the region.”

Christiaanse’s departure last month follows the exit of Brakes Group CEO Ken McMeikan in April of this year.
