Wing Yip completes £16m expansion

Oriental foods wholesaler Wing Yip has completed the £16m, three-year expansion project of its Croydon store in London at a time  the business celebrating its 50th anniversary.

The revamp has allowed Wing Yip’s second London depot to extend its space and offering to include a new cold warehouse, entrance lobby, extended shop floor and additional parking – doubling the total square footage of the shop floor and warehouse space to 60,000 square feet.

Albert Yip, Director of the Croydon store, says: “We are thrilled that the expansion of our new and improved Croydon store is now complete. We have been an integral part of the community here in Croydon for a quarter of a century and the store expansion means we will have more opportunities to expand our range and enhance shopper experience. As well as the local community, we have many customers who travel from outside of our catchment area to shop, and the expansion means we have become more of a destination for those customers.

“The store now also provides us with additional space to ensure our customers are shopping safely in the current climate. We have implemented specific health and safety measures to ensure the safety of our teams and customers. This has been applied across all four of the stores and includes managing the total number of customers in store at any time, adding line markings at check out and around the store to aid safe distancing and carrying out shop floor replenishment at quieter times. The store also conducts a health screening process before staff begin work, regular deep cleans and providing sanitiser supplies for customers to clean trolleys.
