United Wholesale Scotland (UWS) has reported record turnover and gross profit for 2025, despite operating profit falling by £1m to £6m.
Group turnover rose by almost 15% to £327m in the year to 31 December, while gross profit reached a record £31m.UWS attributed the fall in operating profit to continued investment in two smaller group businesses that have yet to break even, alongside rising employment costs, including higher employer National Insurance contributions and increases in the National Living Wage.
In July 2025, UWS expanded into England for the first time with the acquisition of a depot in Rainham, Essex, taking its total to four. The Rainham business has since increased turnover by 23%.

Investment in UWS’s Day-Today (D2D) symbol group has also supported the expansion of its store estate and improvements to existing stores. The wholesaler has introduced in-store digital screens and its Spin to Win campaign as part of its first programme to digitise the estate.
UWS managing director Chris Gallacher said: “Cash and carry wholesaling and convenience retailing continue to face pressure from rising costs and challenging trading conditions, making these results particularly pleasing. It is particularly encouraging to see our investment in Day-Today delivering results. We are attracting new retailers while helping our existing partners develop their stores.
“Digitising the estate and introducing our award-winning Spin to Win screens gives retailers new ways to engage their communities and turn that engagement into sales. Our focus is on helping them build stronger, more profitable businesses.”
