Former Total Foodservice managing director of  Garreth Wilson has joined Unitas as head of foodservice development in what is a brand-new role that has been created to develop and deliver a growth strategy for the buying group’s foodservice members.

The role will involve engaging with members, understanding their businesses and identifying opportunities to grow sales into the vast diversity of foodservice and catering outlets they serve.

Unitas chief executive John Kinney said: “Garreth has a proven track record in foodservice development and will be an excellent addition to our leadership team as we continue to strengthen our foodservice proposition and enhance the support we provide to our members.

“We are delivering on our ambition to implement a compelling growth strategy for our members and supplier partners, and we are delighted to have Garreth playing a huge part in reaching that goal.”

This follows other recent news that foodservice wholesaler Giro Foods is rejoining Unitas after previously being a founder member of the buying group. The Birmingham-based wholesaler, which specialises in food from all over the world, says the move is “the right strategic decision for our business”.

“Having the members and suppliers all together in one place has been the perfect way to start this new adventure,” added Wilson. “I’m looking forward to exploring how we can work even closer together over the coming months.”

Wilson brings more than 20 years of senior leadership experience across foodservice, wholesale, FMCG and multi-site distribution to the wholesale group. He was introduced to the members along with 48 suppliers and the support centre staff at Unitas’ Foodservice Meet the Member event at Whittlebury Park in Northamptonshire this week.
