Sugro UK has held its first 2021 convention in Dubai, with the buying group deciding to offset its carbon emissions for the trip by planting 70 trees, one for each guest in attendance.

The convention, in partnership with PG Events, was the first abroad event since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Members and suppliers were able to network and discuss the challenges faced in the last two years, as well as opportunities in the upcoming year.

Managing director of Sugro, Neil Turton, said: “A few months ago it looked a brave decision to run the convention trip to Dubai; it was achieved with very high standards of covid-safety and brought the Sugro ‘family’ together”.

Feedback from members and suppliers emphasised the importance of in person conventions, with Erdal from Cyprofood commenting: “Thank you to everyone who contributed to this amazing trip. By getting to know the entire Sugro family on this trip, we have seen once again that we as Cyprofood have made the right decision by being a Sugro Member.”

Andy Needham from Morris and Son added, “This trip has summed up what Sugro is all about; relationships built, memories made, fun and graft combining to make all our businesses stronger in the long run. Thanks to everyone who has made these last few days so enjoyable and to the team at Sugro and PG Events for staging a superb comeback event”.
