Pricecheck opens second depot

Pricecheck sets to double its workforce by 2020

Discount specialist wholesaler Pricecheck has opened a second site.

The addition of the new 40,000 sq ft of warehouse space in the Attercliffe area of Sheffield – which will help the business create 70 new jobs by 2020 – comes with the help of a £7.5m finance package from Lloyds Bank, allowing Pricecheck to buy forklifts, pallet racking and stock for the site, aimed at aiding the firm to trade internationally.

Pricecheck, which currently employs 130 staff at its Swallownest headquarters in the same city, recently posted a turnover of £74m, up more than a third on last year.

Explaining the business’ growth and the need for the new site, Lee Walker, finance director at Pricecheck, said: “Shoppers in the UK and abroad feel less stigma about buying from discount stores these days, a trend that has supported our fast growth and one we expect to continue.

“Growing exports has been core to our strategy in the last few years too. Now, almost half of our revenue comes from overseas. With the new warehouse accommodation and finance, we are now in an excellent position to move forward with our growth plans, and to develop the firm to a scale that gives us a real competitive advantage in the market.”
