A Premier retailer is launching a wholesaler comparison app, designed to help fellow store owners “find the cheapest wholesale prices”.
Called ProfitWhale, the service is still in the early stages of development, with a waiting list for retailers. It will allow store owners to scan products or upload order files. The service will then flag up the cheapest price from their selected wholesalers. Orders can then be sent directly to each wholesaler for delivery or click & collect, subject to minimum order requirements.
The founder of ProfitWhale, who asked not to be named, told our sister website Better Retailing the service came from frustrations they had with wholesale pricing as a retailer themselves.

They added: “Like other retailers, I’m seeing prices go up, but margins are being squeezed. Usually, I’ll just send my orders off because of the convenience. ProfitWhale can provide a convenient way for retailers to find the cheapest wholesale prices.
“It can be used directly from an app, meaning retailers save time because they don’t have to submit lots of orders. A lot of store owners I know are going back to the old-school way of retailing by shopping around at different wholesalers. ProfitWhale makes this whole process simpler.”
ProfitWhale is currently inviting retailers to provide feedback about their experiences securing stock in social media surveys.
