AF Blakemore has achieved 19% annual sales growth to £1.19bn, underpinned by performance in the Spar symbol group.

The news came in company results for the year ending 1 May, 2022. AF Blakemore chairman Peter Blakemore said: “This has been delivered by a robust performance across our core Spar network and our ability to use opportunities across recovery sectors such as travel and foodservice.”

He added that the opening of a new distribution centre in Bedford “provides supply chain security to all our trade partners and has enabled greater stock holding at a time when many manufacturers were struggling with inbound availability”.

Despite the sales rise, Blakemore experienced a pre-tax loss of £3.3m.
