Food & Drink Wholesale UK (FWD) is launching a Cost of Living campaign which sets out five practical priorities for Government to help ease pressures across the food supply chain and support the businesses and communities that depend on it.
Over the course of the campaign, the FWD will explore each of the five priorities, hearing directly from wholesalers about the realities facing their businesses and the practical steps Government can take to make a difference.
“Wholesalers are the essential link between producers and the places people rely on every day: schools, hospitals, prisons, care homes, hospitality venues and independent businesses,” said a statement from the FWD. “When the cost of depots, fuel or regulation rises, that pressure travels through the supply chain to public services, local businesses and household food bills.”

The five priorities:
- Protect essential wholesale depots from unintended business rates increases
- Use public procurement to back British food and local suppliers
- Make wholesale and logistics a route into good work
- Cut food and packaging waste without adding avoidable supply chain costs
- Keep food distribution moving while accelerating cleaner fleets
“Together, these practical measures can keep food costs down, support local economies and build a cleaner, stronger supply chain. FWD and its members are ready to work with ministers, mayors and officials to deliver,” it concluded.
