Fresh produce sales up by 30% at Booker

Booker’s total sales for the 16 weeks to January 4, 2013 rose by 3.1% on the same period last year (excluding Makro). Non-tobacco sales were 4.2% higher, while tobacco sales rose by 1.3%.

Booker Wholesale, the cash and carry division, had a good quarter with fresh departments performing particularly well; fruit and vegetable sales up 30% on the same period last year.

Booker Direct and Ritter Courivaud, the speciality foods business, performed well and the wholesaler will be expanding the Classic drinks range to the on trade.

Chef Direct, the foodservice business launched last year, is reported to be making good progress. One of its most prestigious customers is the Aramark business – one of the UK’s leading contract caterers.
