The New Covent Garden Market has opened a new Buyer’s Walk with 15 wholesalers set to operate from it.

The opening brings the wholesale section of Block B fully into operation within a market that is now four-fifths redeveloped. The completed block measures 205 metres long and 64 metres wide, housing 60 units beneath 14.5-metre-high roofs, with a 6.5-metre-wide Buyers’ Walk running the full length of the central aisle.

According to Tony O’Reilly, project director at Covent Garden Market Authority, the new environment represents a step change for buyers and traders alike, offering clearer sightlines, improved access and greater flexibility.

“For buyers, what we have now is a more spacious and brighter environment with six easy access points and an unhindered view along the entire 205 metres, which when the wholesalers have their impressive fruit and vegetable shows out each night will make for a great spectacle,” said O’Reilly. “The 6.5 metre buyers’ walk is a little narrower than the previous iteration, but the deeper buildings and much improved lighting create a more attractive trading environment.
